On 12 January 2008, over 40 designers from around the world shared a catwalk for the first time at the EcoChic Shanghai fashion show. This celebratory event, supported by leading financial firm UBS, sought to promote environmental sustainability in the fashion industry.
The event focused on three different types of fashion: ready-to-wear, eco-couture and vintage. 15 eco-friendly ready-to-wear labels from around the world, including Icicle, Jade en Pluse and NuoMi from China, were showcased alongside eco-couture designs from international superstars, Diane von Furstenberg, Thakoon and Nathan Jenden. The event drew particularly strong support from leading Chinese designers, such as Jenny Ji, Lu Kun and Dorian Ho, who all used eco-textiles produced in China.
Following the fashion show, Sotheby's auction house conducted a live auction to raise funds for WWF China. Further funds were raised by Green2greener via the sale of some of the clothes that appeared on the catwalk.
